Program Overview
A real practice, not a training simulation.
Discover Counseling is a group private practice in Tigard, Oregon that has served the Portland Metro area since 2007. Graduate interns work alongside our licensed clinical team, carry a real caseload, and receive structured supervision from Oregon Board-approved supervisors.
We partner with accredited colleges and universities to provide practicum and internship placements for students pursuing a Master's degree in counseling, marriage and family therapy, or a related clinical field. All placements are coordinated directly with your university to ensure your site experience meets program requirements.
Rolling applications. We accept applications year-round. Intern cohorts typically run 6–9 months and are placed seasonally — fall, spring, and summer starts are available. You don't need to wait for an open cycle to apply.
What Interns Gain
Training that holds up after graduation.
We invest in training because we believe the supervisory relationship is as formative as the therapeutic one. Here's what placement at Discover Counseling looks like in practice:
-
Supervised clinical hours Direct service hours with real clients, counted toward your program and licensure requirements. Supervision is provided by Aaron Potratz (Oregon Board-approved) and Rachel Ferguson (Supervisor Candidate).
-
Individual supervision Weekly one-on-one supervision sessions focused on case consultation, skill development, and your growth as a clinician — not just hour compliance.
-
Group supervision Peer-cohort supervision with fellow interns and associates, providing exposure to diverse presentations and collaborative case discussion.
-
Diverse clinical presentations Exposure to anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship concerns, and life transitions across individual, couples, and family modalities.
-
EHR and documentation experience Training on SimplePractice — the industry-standard EHR — including clinical documentation, progress notes, and session management.
-
Collegial team environment You're part of the practice — not on the periphery. Interns participate in team culture and have access to their supervisor between sessions for consultation on urgent concerns.
