I believe that seeking to understand each client’s worldview and collaborating with them to develop an approach aligned with their values is crucial to their healing process. All individuals naturally strive to meet their basic needs for love, belonging, and survival; however, obstacles or limitations can arise, making it difficult to satisfy these needs. I genuinely believe that, despite those barriers, individuals have the capacity to make choices that can bring them fulfillment and contribute to their overall well-being.
My counseling approach is primarily rooted in Choice Theory, inspired by the work of William Glasser, and incorporates themes from Narrative Therapy. I am particularly interested in working with adolescents as they explore how their experiences, relationships, and perspectives have shaped the stories they hold about themselves.
I believe that people can sometimes become defined by problem-saturated stories or expectations placed upon them by others. Through counseling, I seek to help clients examine these stories with curiosity, identify strengths and values that may have been overlooked, and develop alternative perspectives that support the lives they want to create. I also believe clients are the experts in their own experiences, and my role is to walk alongside them as they explore meaning, identify what matters to them, and make choices that align with their goals and values.
I am currently completing a practicum at Discover Counseling as part of my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Colorado Christian University. I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology, also from CCU. My coursework has included therapeutic approaches, psychopathology and diagnostic criteria, counseling skills, and ethical practice, with a biblical worldview integrated throughout. I am practicing under the clinical supervision of Rachel Ferguson, LPC.
Outside the counseling office, I enjoy hiking, expressing creativity through watercolor painting, and trying new recipes in the kitchen. I also value spending quality time with family and slowing down to enjoy time together.
Working with a counseling intern is similar to working with any therapist at Discover Counseling. You’ll meet regularly, establish goals, and work through challenges in a safe and confidential environment. Your intern receives regular supervision from a licensed clinician, adding an additional layer of professional oversight to your care.
