Discover Counseling and Life Encounter Counseling are teaming up to start a codependency group at our office starting in February 2018. Our desire is to help people who struggle with codependent patterns learn about themselves and gain tools to help build a healthier sense of self and healthier relationships.

According to Melodie Beattie, author of the timeless book “Codependent No More,” there are several common characteristics of codependent people:

  • Caretaking of others
  • Low self-esteem
  • Repression of self
  • Obsession
  • Controlling patterns
  • Denial
  • Dependency on others
  • Poor communication
  • Weak boundaries
  • Lack of trust
  • Anger
  • Problems with sex

Over the course of this group, we will do some education on what is codependency, how and why it develops, and what it looks like in the self and in relationships. We will also address each of the characteristics listed above throughout the course of the group, utilizing the support of one another to build better self-awareness, social skills, boundaries, and communication.

The group will begin in February 2018 on Tuesdays at 12PM and run for 1 hour 45 minutes, and cost $45 per person per group. Some insurance will be accepted, which can be discussed prior to registration. If you or someone you know could benefit from this group, you can register by contacting Aaron Potratz ( or Nathan Hawkins (
